Sportsmanship and Success in Interschool Sport
Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 have made us proud in their latest interschool Football, Netball, Soccer and Cross Country competitions.
There were regular reports from parents and teachers of wonderful teamwork and commitment, great sportsmanship and exemplary behaviour being displayed over the competitions. Students also did not give up in the face of defeat and showed wonderful resilience, especially when the weather wasn’t the best! Teams practised in their own time during lunchtime and at afterschool sessions. Thank you to the staff, parents and teachers who showed that extra commitment to training throughout the competition.
In Football, Soccer and Netball, Woodlands Primary School competed against Floreat Park PS, City Beach PS, West Leederville PS, Wembley Downs PS and Churchlands PS. Our Woodlands Football team remained undefeated throughout the competition. Netball had a mixture of wins and losses as did soccer, but all teams showed great improvement over the competition, with our soccer team winning their last two games against West Leederville and Churchlands PS.
Students selected from Year 3 to Year 6 to compete in our Cross Country Competition at City Beach PS ran their hearts out to achieve some significant results, with Woodlands PS coming second only to Wembley PS in a nine school competition. Mention must be made of students being awarded medals – Heath Melody Yr 3 – first place Year 3 Boys, Benji van Rooyen – fourth place Year 3 boys, Gabrielle Maxton – first place Year 4 girls, Tyler Wilson – first place Year 4 boys, Zac Taylor – fourth place Year 5 boys. All medal winners received 3 training sessions with 3 times Olympian Sarah Jamieson. Other significant performances included Hannah and Elle Forbes achieving 6th and 7th place in the Year 5 girls, and Max Wagenaar achieving 8th place in the Year 6 boys. Well done to everyone who represented Woodlands PS in this competition, your resilience and sportsmanship were second to none.
